What are some elements stolen cars have in common?

They’re Older Models
While a new car can also be stolen, car thieves are looking for simplicity. Older vehicles are less likely to come with flashy alarms, bells, and whistles that a new car has. If your vehicle is older, it may appeal to a thief who’s in a hurry to jimmy the engine’s lock and hot wire.

Silver Cars
While most people assume red cars are more likely to be stolen, studies show that silver vehicles are stolen the most. The psychology behind why this hasn’t been thoroughly explored, but silver cars are more common. White cars are the second most commonly stolen, followed by black vehicles.

Hondas
One of the most reliable bestsellers is also the most likely to be stolen. According to the DMV, Honda accords and Honda Civics are among the favorites of car thieves.

So what can you do to prevent the likelihood of car theft?

  • Be careful and cautious of your surroundings and stay informed on which neighborhoods may have higher criminal activity.
  • Park in well-lit areas and close all of your windows.
  • Install a tracking system on your vehicle.
  • Don’t leave any valuables in your car.
  • Install a demobilizing device or ignition disabler. This will prevent the vehicle from starting unless a switch or button is activated.
